Michael Baboolal

Michael Baboolal is a Toronto based dance artist. He began dancing at age 17 and since then has been fortunate to work with many artists from around the world, who have aided in developing his artistic voice and opinions. He works in the commercial and contemporary facets of dance and continues to be an active member within both communities. He is frequently brought in as a guest artist working with Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts (TDSB). Michael had the opportunity to work and learn from many acclaimed choreographers/ companies, including: Hanna Kiel, James Kudelka, Kate Hilliard, Gadfly, Chartier Danse, BoucharDanse, Alejandro Cerrudo (Repertory), Roberto Olivan, Laida Aldaz Arrieta, Company SBB, Cirque du Soleil and The Dietrich Group among others. Following graduation, he was accepted and attended Springboard Danse Montreal, where he worked with Slowdanger and also performed repertory from Batsheva Dance Company.

In his search to gain more knowledge, Michael is constantly broadening his movement vernacular allowing him to make dynamic qualitative choices and inspiring new movement ideas. His training in various disciplines informs his artistic style and qualities both in performance and choreography. Being able to sift through these ideas and work towards a unique identity in movement is a goal he continues to work towards. Michael holds a BFA in dance from Ryerson University.
